Christmas is over

So Christmas is over for another year and i thought i would run through a few of my favorite gifts that i have received.

Wall Street was an amazing film. Its one of those classic 80s dramas basically based around one mans rise to fame. A sort of Stock Brokers version of Cocktail.

Another great film and a bit more of a modern classic was Bad Lieutenant starring Nicholas Cage. Its one of those once in a decade films that really get you thinking. Think Inception meets Police Academy. It is a truly genius film and i do seriously rate it. Just be sure to watch it in a happy mood because its dark as hell.

The leader of the video game side of things is Fable 3. What a fantastic game. It plays on such an epic scale that fable 2 could only have dreamed of. With tons of things to do, Great People to meet and tense combat in between it rounds off to a great game.

Other games such as Gran Turismo and Assassins Creed i haven't really played enough to mention. And the others? The Expendables blu ray, back to the future trilogy blu ray, speed and family guy series 9.

Oh and check out this awesome T Shirt.

Just an Update

So Christmas is upon us and i feel that it is my duty to announce that we will no longer be podcasting... Until next year... WHICH IS IN LIKE A WEEK! But in all seriousness for all of those who just found my awful joke amusing, we will be away for a short while with our respective families and whatnot  but fear not because episode 3 is not fair away and don't forget about our recently posted Christmas Special. So when your lying in bed on Christmas Eve thinking about all the lovely presents that Santa is going to bring. Forget about it because the Phoenix Project is bringing you everything you need this Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone.

New Logo

I'm having a blast at a new logo, its gonna take me ages yet, but here is a sneak peek.

Transformers then and now

Hi Folks,
thanks as always to those of you who tune in and read our stuff ( soon you can view us as well on youtube ).
Today im discussing the topic "Transformers then and now", what I mean by this is how hasbro bought us a great story driven cartoon in the 1980's; and Michael Bay has delivered some incredibly high grossing films which have great style yet lack for me what the cartoon delivered.

Some statistics

Transfomers the original series: 1984-1987
Transformers comic : 357 issues
Transformers films so far : $721 million
Frank welker aka Megatron was in the most episodes of the cartoon

From this

To this

I must say I was rather fortunate to find such similar images; I am very happy as a fan that the movies have been as successful as they have been , however they missed so much for me as a fan.
Michael Bay has done the commercial thing and that can only be appluaded; however I think he lost any praise from me as he forgot the real fans, the autobots and decepticons now feel for the most part inanimate objects.
One of the key things for me in originally enjoying the Transformers, was that they were cool robots that had a human element that you could see in them; it gave us as fans association with the charcters so when Optimus Prime (SPOILER ALERT)
died originally in the 1986 movie you really cared, as he had just saved the day from the decepticons.
The fact that Michael Bay decided to ignore most of the original story and even incredibly all bar one of the original voice cast, was very much a example of his lack of care to remember the fans; I personally would have refused to watch if Peter Cullen had not been brought back to voice Optimus Prime ( leaving Frank Welker out was a disgrace ).
And the only reason Cullen was given the job was due to fan pressure and a re audition, they could have made the films high grossing whatever they had done, so I feel that the lack of care and attention to the people that really matter is somewhat of a shame upon the movie franchise.

To feel nostalgic once more "autobots transform and roll out", it was and is still one of those moments when Optimus kicks Megatrons ass on earth in the 1986 film that makes you believe the line "One shall stand one shall fall".

Have a great Day

Film Endings

Ever stopped and said "hey where did the great film endings go"
Does this ring a bell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsRntJt8IRI
(Credits Running Man 1986)

I just think the ending of films used to really make you think a bit, perhaps in more simplistic terms than say what youd see in an arthouse movie.
But to feel escapsim to realise the unreal; i think real life drama is fine and dandy but give me a futuristic gameshow where contestants fight for their deaths any day.

Oh and the music used to really have some punch to it as well Where is John Parr these days; i shall tell you where; he sings his songs on a mountain somewhere and is loving every minute of it.(eat your heart out Justin Bieber u little twerp)

This man sells cool even on the worst album cover art ever (possibly shopping at tesco's)

This Jerk couldnt sell cool if it was Free end of.......

From now on

A few things.
We will be blogging alot more from here on. We have just been very focused on the podcast spending hours a week getting it perfect but we did hit a high point at the end of series 1 so it looks like all the hard work has paid off. It has taken us 10 hours and 16 minutes of podcasting material to find the perfect formula and i feel that series 2 is going to reflect it. Anyway  series 2 has come off with a bang so far its all looking good with real celebrities for once. We are also on i tunes which is always handy for you i pod dooers and heres the link http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-phoenix-project/id405925146.
Good speed and stay safe.

General Poderings.

Few things i've realised recently which i feel as though i should share with you.

I got myself a copy of modern warfare 2 for the third time and completed the campaign in about 6 hours. What a load of shit i mean come on! What game takes 6 hours to complete. I' not a huge online person so don't even bother trying to justify it with saying how epic the online is. Because to be fair its a bit crap.

Just started watching firefly. Its a really great TV series and easily the best sci fi series of all time. It has a perfect blend of action, humor, suspense and a great cast that makes it flow into one great little tv series. So good they made a film, yet not another series.

Hostal 2 is sick and should never have been made. Fact.

My Playstation 3 60 GB console broke down the other day so i upgraded to a 250 GB console and what a machine it is. Its ridiculously good looking, so small and slim and i left it running all night by accident and waking up this morning its still as quiet as a mouse.

Thats about all for now.

Podcast 7 redux!

Ok so we've uploaded podcast 7, it's on mixcloud, and you can find the link on our podcasts page. In this podcast we have decided to sing, don't ask me why, we just have. I sing Princes Of The Universe by Queen at the beginning, Pete sings Here I Go Again by Whitesnake in the middle and Jon finishes with Faith Of The Heart by Russell Watson.

We have another fantasy fight between me and Jon, facing Clayface again Optimus Prime (once again I get destroyed by Jon's superior choice). There is a little chat about Thundercats and all sorts of banter.

Tune in and enjoy it,

Jack

Podcast 7!

So we uploaded podcast 6 the other day, and it was a variation on the usual, with myself (Jack) missing from the fantasy fight, however Pete picks up the slack and him and John have a great fantasy fight. We recorded the majority of podcast 7 last night, including a new fantasy fight and a new feature, basically us singing.

We chose a song each and played rock paper scissors to decide where we went in the show. I sing the opener, Pete sings the middle song and John sings the end number. Gotta say it was a great laugh, and I think most people will enjoy it for one reason or another, so hopefully we'll have podcast 7 up and going in the next fews days, so keep checking back!

The 80's TV intro's

Hi as you folks out there can realise we know all about the Ice cool veneer of the 1980's, and what was cooler than the intro to a 1980's tv show.
By that i mean the way the charcters were introduced; check out examples below.
Now i always found it like they had been either caught off guard or were smiling for the camera, and in macgyvers case he somehow was always on an airfield.
I do miss the classic intros and i wrote this whilst listening to GENESIS live oh yes; LIVE.

Resident Evil Awesome!

Resident Evil Afterlife.

Something about the Resdent Evil franchise makes me keep coming back. Maby its that i'm obsessed with zombie related films. Or maby that its that i loved the games so much. Perhaps its just the cybernetic post apocalyptic futuristic visualization of the world and the kick ass soundtrack. All i know is that i know i want to see it and i'm sure a little bit of you does too.

Release date : 10th September 2010

Gaming today.

How many people reading this would safely say that video gaming has become a huge part of everyones lives. It way it draws people in, whether its Mass Effect or Metal Gear Solid with its emotional plot lines, Gears of War or God of War with its hard hitting in your face exhilarating action or Call of Duty online that just keeps you running back for more. Whatever the reason the reason may be the fact is video games have taken over our lives.See i wake up, go to work selling videogames, get home, play videogames, then blog about videogames. Now not everyone works with videogames but you get the jist. I first realised this when i was about 14 and i got my copy of Medal of Honour Frontline home and as i played the opening to the game blew me away. Just the thrill of storming the beach, the explosions the drama. Thats what keeps me comming back, the pure intensity of a well made action game. I do strive to find the frontline feeling. But recently i have felt as though there has been a lack of well thought out hard hitting games recently and the videogames we once knew and loved just dont seem to be being made anymore. Theres something so overdone about call of duty and gears of war. Whats Halo? Just your average alien shooter. Fifa 10? i hate the idea behind football games. Whats with all the games that involve you feeding babies or playing with cats? Whatever happened to just waiting till you were old enough to have a baby, or getting a cat. To be honest im not even sure what point im trying to make but metal gear solid 4 and god of war 3 seem to cut it right for me. Im not sure what it is. They just have the frontline factor. Word

New challenger!

Hey guys,

Just to let everyone know, The Phoenix Project has got a new member, Jack. Welcome on board! Hah it's Jack writing this so I'll cut the lame intro. Basically Jon and Pete asked me join in on the fun and I came on board (you can hear my voice on the latest podcast which should be up in a few hours).

I haven't decided what my regular blog spot will be on yet, but I'm thinking films or something along those lines. Anyway, catch you all soon,  peace!

Knight Rider

Good Evening Folks, tonight im talking about everyones favourite pontiac firebird; no i dont mean kelly brook (hehe).
Im talking about KNIGHT RIDER; yep the story of one man vs the world; Michael Knight or should i say (Michael Long)- his original name is shot and is rebuilt in the name of Wilton Knights first son Michael Knight.
He is then given the keys to the sexiest piece of kit the 1980's could offer and no i dont mean Courtney Cox LOL; but the amazing KITT voiced by Mr Pheenay from boy meets world lol.
As you can see they made quite a team; and there still doing that today although im not sure about the new car.
Knight Rider ran between (1982-1986) a bit like the A-team in its last season added some silly charcters (Tc) lol which really did not work and sadly ended what was a great show; it was brought back in knight rider 2000; where they killed DEVON and destroyed KITT (what were they thinking)
Anyway Knight Rider is widely available on DVD and i would suggest a purchase or watch it everyday on BRAVO.And to finish Mike and the late great Gary Coleman

Back soon

Videogame Deaths

Recently I completed 2 of the best videogames that I have played in along time on my playstation 3. Now I'm all good for a dramatic plot with twists and turns with a happy ending. But for the second time as I sit through the closing credits I feel somewhat dissapointed. Not to spoil anything but the game that I had just completed was possibly the most incredible experience I've ever experienced playing a games console. So tell me this, why did they have to go and kill of such an almighty lead charactor. It just brought me up to the peak of my adrenaline when it comes to videogames to knock me back down leaving me empty and hollow. I am not happy.

MACGYVER

First off welcome to the site its going to be a link to all things past and present; anything kickass basically.
My first post is going to be about the legend that is Macgyver (1985-1992) what a show, pretty much a one man A-Team; Macgyver solved problems and stopped villians around the world weekly with nothing more than his wits and his trusty swiss army knife.
Sadly the show ended in 1992 largely due to Dana Elcars eyesight problems (Elcar played Mac's boss Pete Thornton) however they followed up with Macgyver and the city of Atlantis (where Mac disarmed a Nuclear bomb with a tennis racket and some string).
As you can see above the DVD's are available now and i would advise a purchase; aslo if you enjoy this you can follow Richard Dean Anderson in Stargate SG1 (1997-2008); He continues to appear in further Stargates Atlantis etc.
Macgyver's theme is also the intro to our first podcast and its seriously EPIC; although dont attempt to copy his haircut unless you are Richard Dean Anderson.

Enjoy the site and its further updates.

TOM!

The first ramblings.

Thanks for reading the first ever Pheonix Project blog. Id be surprised if you are reading this. Seriously there wont really be anything interesting found here. Anyway moving on, were very excited to start our blog. We're going to have loads of things going on here. Movie reviews, game reviews and previews, podcasts and general ramblings about the things that you never knew you wanted to know but listened to anyway. Anyway i'm going to assume your all quite bored by now and im tired after hours of work on this piece of crap so thats about all for now so be strong and stay frosty.
